This mode makes much more sense on a PC, where such enthusiasts are far more likely to have flight control peripherals and a setup conducive to realism. That's not the domain of hardcore simulation titles. Perhaps it's a very accurate simulation - at least the difficulty has the waft of authenticity - but you're still in a lounge with an Xbox controller. In training mode these are relatively easy to complete. The missions are fairly predictable, and largely composed of flying to a destination, using your weaponry and flying back again. Granted, it's a simulation, not a Mills and Boon novel, but the game would benefit from some narrative shaping.
There's no real story to speak of, just a series of missions. The second is a training mode that effectively bolts learner wheels onto your chopper.
The first is simulation mode, which simulates with alarming accuracy the terrible crash that would occur should anyone without the requisite license try to fly a real helicopter. But when a game is neither, things get a bit more difficult: the game may not have glaring flaws, but it may lack any number of effervescent qualities that see it rise to the top.Īpache Air Assault is such a game, one that tempts this reviewer to trade in terrible clichés in an attempt to explain to the reader that this title might appeal to niche enthusiasts. We're hardwired for hyperbole: it's easy to write thousands of words effortlessly praising the finer points of a blockbuster title, and a poor game is even easier. Mediocre games are notoriously hard to critique.
Well, college happened (I'd rather not talk about that), and when I got back I just decided to do different games until I felt like I was finally ready to do this one.SHOT DOWN: Apache: Air Assault for Xbox 360 is a flight simulator that will likely be a forgotten entry in the annals of gaming. This was originally supposed to be episode 3, and air immediately after Nano Assault (3DS), which went live on January 14th. There are also a lot of typos, not that you would have ever known if you heard them verbally. I got most of the information in the review, but now that I found this, there are definitely some things I forgot about and wouldn't hurt to be read. I never made a blog post for this one, you'll have to find it on YouTube.ĮDIT: I found the original script from last January. I'll get the hang of this eventually.Īnyway, now that that unnecessarily long introduction is out of the way, here is my average, ordinary, non-spectacular “review” of Apache: Air Assault.Įdit January 17th, 2016: I made a text review for this I fixed those only to have them replaced with new ones due to inexperience with the recording equipment. I bet that makes you want to take 7 minutes out of your life to watch this. It’s also the first episode to feature another person besides me (yes I know other people… that I may or may not be related to and may or may not have forced to help me), and the first game to be in one of my my favorite genres.ĭoes any of this mean the quality of my videos has improved? Absolutely not… This is also the first episode where I used an actual microphone with an actual voice recorder, as opposed to a headphone mic recording with iOS Voice Memos.
Always obey traffic lights, kids.Īdditionally, this was actually one of two games that made me want to create a YouTube channel dedicated to lesser known games in the first place the other being Alien Chaos 3D on the 3DS, which I did as episode one 6 months ago. Okay, I didn’t really fall off the planet, I just went on vacation, but I did come traumatizingly close to ceasing to exist. First off, I wanted this review to go up last Saturday, but I didn’t get it done in time and then dropped off the face of the Earth for a few days. Excellent question I just asked myself, “finally what?” Well, there are several things.
